PARAMEDIC OF THE YEAR 2001 in Lycoming County was bestowed upon Michael B. Magyar, EMTP ('95). His brother, John (JJ) W. Magyar II ('89) received the same honor in the year 2000. The brothers are employed as paramedics and Michael serves as President of Montgomery Volunteer Fire Co. and JJ is the current Fire Chief.

Friends of Jerry ('70) and Sally Morehart Pauling ('74) presented a benefit concert at Montgomery High School on 12/29/2001 entitled "Unfailing Love". The cast included many alumni members and current MAHS students. Sally, for over nine years, has courageously faced each day with Multiple Schlerosis and Jerry has recently be diagnosed with Lou Gehrigs Disease. A portrait was unveiled at Muncy Vally Hospital in memory of Dr. Howard Weaner who served on the staff from 1955 to 1989. Dr. Weaner was made an honorary member of the Alumni Association in 1988.

"Best of the World for 2001" is the car stereo system owned by Stephanie Warfel ('96) now of Williamsport. The honor was won in the amateur street 601 plus sound quality division competition at Charlotte, NC in October 2001. Stephanie has qualifed for the world competition in sound quality for three years.

Robert More ('61) has been named to the Board of Directors of the Williamsport-Lycoming Foundation.

Dr. Willard Noyes ('51) of Thompson, PA was presented the Humanitarian Award by the American College of Osteopathic surgeons at an October 2001 Ceremonial Conclave in Palm Desert, Ca. Dr. Noyes received the award for his volunteer service with the International Medical Corp. in May & June 1999 in the war-torn Balkans. He has returned to Albania several times, most recently this November, when he delivered medical supplies and equipment. Dr. Noyes was the commencement speaker for the MAHS graduation of 2000.

Wayne Hall ('85) is now a civilian working for the army at Ft. Belvoir, VA where he is editor of the Ft. Belvoir newspaper. His article regarding the September 11th attack on the Pentagon was featured in a recent issue.

School Nets Big Award
These were the headlines 12/15/2001. Montgomery Area Elementary was awarded the Governor's School of Achievement Award worth $25,000 for demonstrating continued improvement on the Pennsylvania Scholastic School Assessment (PSSA) tests over the past three years.

ATTENTION World War II Veterans
MAHS Principal Thomas Farr is looking for veterans, living or deceased, who left school and went to war to serve their country and did not receive a diploma. They will be honored at the commencement ceremony in June 2002.
